Video Petition To Governor Patterson For Funding Higher Education

The Message-
Dear Gov. Patterson,
It is clear that all across the great state of New York, tough decisions will have to be made by individuals, corporations and governments alike in light of the global financial crisis. The latest state budget proposal has also made it clear that students at the State Universities of New York are being asked to shoulder a disproportionate share of this burden. Many of us remained quiet while our tuition was raised by $620 and $2,260 for in-state and out of state students, respectively for the 2009-2010 academic year. We cannot, and will not however, stand idly by while our schools budgets are cut by $217 million. The tuition increases are projected to generate an additional $152.2 million but we will not see this money.
We the undersigned implore you, Governor Patterson, to save our schools. Save the institutions that provide the future teachers, engineers, doctors and businesspeople that the future of New Yorks economy are so dependent on. Our SUNY system is the envy of states throughout the country, but without adequate funding this cannot be expected to continue. Let us then keep New York special. Let us remain a leader of the pack on the issue of higher education. Let us not mortgage our students, and indeed our states future for the sake of what is easiest and most politically expedient. Governor Patterson, please do not turn your back on us, the students of New Yorks public universities.

Good cause guys, but it's hard to believe that Gov. Paterson will ever see this video.

i am dismayed at the proposed cuts. where does it stop? when there are no programs left? when a college education becomes nothing more than a technical course? what does this say about the attitude toward a real educated population! do not make these cuts.

Funding for education can be achieved by taking the profit out of the for-profit insurance system and applying it to schools and the future of our country. Great video and petition technique!
