A faster lap time doesn't mean 'better handling'. For example, a Range Rover will post a much faster lap time than a 1960's Mini, but it's the Mini which handles better.

The S2000 has 90bhp more than the Miata, that's why it's faster. Drop the S2000's power to 150bhp and I bet the Mazda will post a quicker time. Great handling cars can be slow (Mini) and fast cars can handle like crap ('90s Corvette).

Ever driven a Miata? I used to have one and I now have an S2K, and the Mazda handled better. Why are there so many arguments on youtube about which car is best (most likely by people who haven't even driven them)? My first car was a Miata, my second (and current car) is an S2000. If you've owned both fair enough, but if you haven't don't just reel off a load of facts and think that means you know the cars in question. The Miata is an awesome drive, and so is the S2000.

@1hit1derz I just got my first my first car, a 2002 miata, and I am tired of hearing people on youtube talking about how slow they are and comparing them to cars with twice as much horsepower. You're exactly right, the miata is about how it makes you feel when you drive down a mountain road.

@marshknute nice point of view. I guess it's like this in many situations. It depends what the producer aimed with a specific car . I'd prefer Mazda for better handling as I'm not a speed addict

I like and dislike things about both cars. But I think for me, the PRHT on the MX-5 makes it a powerful selling point.

S2000 is extinct and was too expensive... and smaller inside than the Mazda.

The Miata was not designed for speed, but rather for fun. The Miata's chassis allows for predictable handling which encourages the driver to push it even harder. Sure, a Porsche 911 will take the turns more quickly, but it can never instill its driver with the level of confidence provided by a Miata.

The S2000, on the other hand, is a showcase for one of the greatest 4-cylinder engines ever produced. Its sudden burst of power will always put a smile on the driver's face.
