If you look closely at when the backlight is turned off, you will see there is still hints of color. It's just mostly desaturated.

In any case a screen that is at least viewable is far preferable to one which is completely washed out.

If this tech is cheap enough it will be good for all kinds of uses of lcd displays: Vehicles, ATMs, Gas pumps, watches etc.

there is color, its just not very good, see the other pixar qi videos.

besides, if you want tow atch videos you can watch them in the normal mode. if you want to read on the computer you can use it in the outdoor mode... i use my computer for both video and text...

its not e-ink, it's a regular lcd with a new reflective technology.

No, it is e-ink, there is no paper in it.

this panel is a hybrid lcd / e-ink design.

Yes. They are even talking about being able to change the refresh rate for different functions, Low refresh for reading, high refresh for video.
