Changing names seems to be a habit with Buffalo Gals. Even its composer changed his name from John Hodges to Cool White. Buffalo Gals started out in 1844 as Lubbly Fan, but its name soon changed with each touring minstrel troupe which took it on the road (Bowery Gals, Cincinnati Gals, Louisiana Gals, Charleston Gals, etc). By 1848 the name Buffalo Gals stuck, but even into the 1920's groups like The Skillet Lickers called it Alabama Gals.

Thanks for that, but I think of Raymond as a "troubadour" and myself as a "songster." What's the difference? I think the difference is in the scholarship... Raymond is definitely a "literate" man... You and I Dan are simple "songsters."
