The opening of the movie: "The Battle of Britain". The opening uses the famous Luftwaffe march composed for the movie. After the "Battle of France" Germany decided to begin planning for "Operation Seelowe" the invasion of Britain. It was decided that the Royal Air Force would first have to be destroyed before a landing could ever hope to succeed. In about three months the Germans tried to win control over the skies of the Southern sector of Britain. However even though the Germans almost succeeded in achieving their goals when their focus was attacking RAF airfields intervention by Hitler forced the Luftwaffe to begin attacks on London as a reaction to the bombing of Berlin by the RAF. This in turn proved to the decisive factor that ensured victory for Great Britain, because their total fighter strength could now be cohesively deployed in the famous "big wing" formations thus crippling the Luftwaffe severely, which was not designed for the strategic bombing campaign Hitler had in mind.

  • man, I have nothing but the deepest respects for the brits. they really weren't going to give up. They went up against overwhelming odds, and came out on top! Cheers from a proud American to the brave citizens of the Great Britain!

  • @EnemyOfTheSystem and if you watch as the trucks pass by the Luftwaffe pilots (in the yellow car) there is a "Mack" truck too.

  • this song is just amazing, i love it, beautiful music

  • @Anders2185 And again, I never said that the British were begging the Americans for support/aid in my previous comment. I said it in a comment long ago, but that comment is in no way related to this or the previous.

  • @Anders2185 Aswell as Anti-air guns - Don't come up with some lame excuse for a defeat without there actually being a reasonable fault for the defeat

  • @Anders2185 What the fuck are you talking about? Yeah the Unternehmen Seelöwe was a fucking failure from the side of the German's, not because the Luftwaffe was horrible, actually at this period they were pretty much superior to the RAF. They mainly lost because of the fact that the moment the Luftwaffe pilots took off, they were out of reach for supplies, whereas the RAF had tons of supplies in the nearby areas of London.

  • @MuchoFunkie I don't recall any mass so called begging to the yanks or any other country at the time of Dunkirk/BOB, don't exaggerate. The RAF defeated the Luftwaffe (i.e. what marvelmax03191 said "came out on top") without any help from the yanks (don't assume I mean we didn't need their help at all because I don't.)

  • I recognize the German half-tracks as m5s. Im not sure about that self propelled gun at 0:03 though...... Anyone?

  • @marvelmax03191 The Germans almost annihilated the British at Dunkirk, and the same goes for the invasion of Greece (eventhough taking big casualties)

  • @MuchoFunkie they still did it without our help... ;) and at the time germany was playing with a full deck.

  • Jolly Good Mate!

  • @marvelmax03191 Umm, came out on top? If you mean they came out on top after begging the US and alot of other countries to aid them then yes, they came out on top - Don't forget that GERMANY fought against unbeliavable odds, 60 nations whilst 3-4 of them was super-nations. Aswell as being outnumbered on a bigger scale than 10 to 1
