Watts is worth every single minute you can give to hearing him speak and think. Thanks for yet another amazing post from him.

Superb perspective and insight. I didn't even make the connection between "school" and "scholar" until I listened to this, even though I have become well aware of the systematic indoctrination of labor intensity that school enforces upon it's PUPILS . . . that's where college comes in, as it ain't free (unlike compulsory K-12) and it's for those who seek true scholarly objectives. They should really change the name of the FORCED education to which children/teens are subjected!

LOL I knew the latest comment I'd see would be some kind of red herring argument . . . and I didn't even listen/watch the video (just scrolled down to see YouTuber feedback). If you really believe that without money we would have nothing, I feel beyond sorry for you. Money is a means of exchange, it is neither demand NOR supply, just a facilitator of those two forces of economy. Wanting to consume (instead of needing to and limiting consumption) breeds greed and WASTE.

what is he really saying? ask yourself, are we vultures because we want to go to school and get something out of it? Because we want to consume and live a life of fortune and security? Money is the worlds demand, without it we have caos, without it we have nothing. If everyone just appreciated the pebble on the beach there would be no standard of life, no comparison of values

i liken it to moving in to a new house:
u r excited when its a big empty house with the light on, its full of potential.
but if its a house full of someone elses shit, that ur NOT ALLOWED TO get rid of, not so exciting.
school fills your head with someone elses shit. the light is snuffed OUT

Alan Watts he certainly hit the nail on the head with this one.
One thing...even working families today can often homeschool their children...giving those children at least some years in their lives, when they have the room to play, to create, to have leisure.

Anybody interested in further understanding what mass schooling does should read Dumbing us Down and Underground History of American Education by John Taylor Gatto. You can read his Underground History at his website for free, which is more important than Dumbing Us Down and much more detailed
