Caravan! - played by Zane Charron

This is one of my new showcase pieces and a favorite to play. It's got a bit of everything: Travis Pickin, harp harmonics, a cool walking bass part and even a tremolo section!

I know my videos aren't as 'professional' looking and sounding as some on YouTube, as I'm still using a webcam and web mic. For a studio recording of this tune check out my MySpace site!

I struggled with learning this one off and on for several years. I found the main A7 position with the Bb bass note played with the thumb very awkward. But this last time I tackeld it I was determined, and now it actually feels quite comfortable to me. Synching up the melody and bass is also tricky.

I use a classical guitar, and I have an almost impossible time doing that left thumb over the top of the neck thing. (But Chet did it all the time!)

When I took classical guitar lessons years back there was a teacher who kept a stick handy, and if a student's left thumb came over the top, he would whack it with the stick!

@daffydoug Chet my have had a thinner neck on his though. Still, everyone's hands are different. Some people have amazing flexibility with their thumb, others don't. I'm in the middle. I struggled with Caravan off and on for several years because of that first position, but now it feels comfortable!

I'm not a stickler about technique. If something works and doesn't hinder anything else, then do it!
