http://www.askmisterwizard.com/EZINE/WirelessNetworking.htm AskMisterWizard.com Networking Fundamentals Section: Adding a "Wireless Access Point" to a wired Ethernet LAN

The easiest way to create a wireless network is to add a "Wireless Access Point" to an existing, wired Ethernet that already has Internet access and supports the "DHCP" protocol for automatic configuration. This 5-minute movie shows exactly how I did it in a hotel room, using a low-cost "Travel Router" in "Wireless Access Point" mode.

  • what about the security?

  • The narration within the video makes it clear that the described setup is completely "public" and insecure. Securing this setup is a different subject, and is best handled by enabling the well-known "WPA" encryption.

  • pretty straightforward. However, I personally didn't see any point in making this video so long (or making it at all). Most people would know how to plug in/connect a ethernet port to the travel router and then connect the computer through to the network.

  • Glad you found it straightforward. All of the training videos in this series are oriented toward absolute beginners.

  • Can someone help me because I can't get on PSN because I have a problem with WLAN. It won't let me. I recently switched to DirecTV and I see these wires.

  • I like one

  • Thats a bit complicated for the amount of characters I am allowed to use here, and this has just utilized much of that. lol. Do research. Depends on what you want out of it. Get what you pay for... make sure all your equipment is compatible with the rest, e.g. 802.11 A,B,G,N etc..

  • get a netgear router. there built in.
