I have had it up to close to 100, but I was limited by the gearing. For max. fuel mileage, I have to stick to around 70 on the highway. I have 3.54 gears. I wish I had 3.08, or even 2.72! I can't regear with the stock Durango front diff unless I swap it out for the older (and smaller, weaker) diff, which I think still only gets me to 3.31. I'm going to run the tallest, narrowest tires I can fit on it, probably 235/85/16 (32").

with such a torquey engine I reckon u could gear it for much higher speeds.
My range rover 2.5TDI did over 100mph (on the speedo!).
Love it, I have a cj7 with a 4bt. Just got it running. Have it mated to a nv4500 5spd, dana300 transfer case. Now I need to find the best gears for it as well. Will try it out on stock first but will have to toughen them up before too long.

For mild off road, with street driving, 3.54 or 3.73 would be good choices, depending on tire size of course. With the 31s on my Durango I can hook a heavy trailer behind it and still take off without using throttle...it will idle away just fine. If you have larger tires or do more rock crawling, go with 4.11 or 4.56, but be ready to limit street speeds.

Mileage in the winter, with -30 mornings, long warmups, and winter fuel was 27-28 mpg. With summer fuel, we are getting 30-31mpg. The engine originally had an aftercooler (water/air) but it didn't quite fit under the hood. I'll me putting an intercooler in at some point to help keep EGTs down. Its on the list, just haven't gotten to it. Its TONS of fun to drive, and we get all kinds of comments. My wife loves it...its her vehicle. I have towed with it, 5500 lbs. with no problems at all.

What do you have as far as sound deadening goes? It's really not as loud as I'd have expected

I used some sound deadening/heat shielding I got off ebay on the firewall. I actually had to remove some of the stock insulation from the bottom of the transmission tunnel because the trans fit so tight. I was going to put the sound deadener on the top of the tunnel, but noise hasn't been a problem.
