How to remove rust with electricity

I have done this process to a big block engine block that sat outside for over 15 years. The machine shop told me the block was junk after hot tanking from all the rust. I used a plastic 55 gallon drum with 25 gallons of water and 25 tablespoons of backing soda. Let it run for about 12 hours. Lifted it out of the drum with the hoist, hosed it off, and immediatly sprayed the block with WD-40. Looked brand new.

Foo Fighters, very nice.
Thanks for the vid. I have a 71 Ford that needs all 4 rebuilt.

less volt, more Ampere.
In chroming process, 1V to 5V, and too many ampere are usual (hundreds of amperes for bigger pieces)
Current is the most important electric value for this process.

@mrofffroad More volts won't do anything. More amps will speed up the process.
Beware of the hydrogen gas.

i had an xbox 360 controller which had corrosion on it so i decided to get some steel wool and put it inside the battery pack with the batterys then i smelt something dodgy but then miracously my controller worked

I have a few years of experience in life & this is the first I have heard of this method of rust removal. I came here as a result of watching a video by Shopsmith Hands Online on YouTube about removing rust using a potatoe. Someone posted comment about using electrolysis to remove rust. Your video was among the suggested videos. You did a great job in your video & I LEARNED SOMETHING NEW. - I don't need this now but will try to store it in the old brain for future use. - Thanks for the info.

@skootb2 I was using a 2/10/50 amp charger. On 50 amp, it kept tripping the internal breaker on the charger itself, so I had to run it at 10amp and it ran as long as I wanted it to.
can I do this to my motorbike petrol tank , ?

@HecticAussie I suppose you could, I don't know how well it would work for any rust inside the tank though.

ok so you use about 12 volts and 10 amps, and it takes a few hours for small stuff
but i have a big projekt in mind ,
so can i use like 20-50 volts and 70+ amps ( from an old welder or something) will it work aswell and will it work faster?, or is there a downside? because i have seen people do this with car batteries.
( ofcorse it the welder i have in mind has positive and negative output , )

@mrofffroad There is a guy in the comments who did an engine block with this process but used the standard process and it worked out well for him. I would guess that it would work faster with more power but I honestly can't say because I've never tried it. I also don't know if there are any downsides to using more power.

does this damage the charger somehow?

@battisa No, it shouldn't hurt it
