Like other examples of this behavior, this video is dreadful to watch. If I had the power I would have shuttered the Topeka Zoo's elephant habitat many years ago and sent Sunda and Tembo to a sanctuary. It is beyond belief that the zoo's director has continued to drag his feet on this decision. The selfish interests of the humans seem to outweigh the welfare of these animals. Please urge the city's officials to close the elephant exhibit and send Sunda and Tembo to a sanctuary.

Also it is November and they are cold. It is noted that these elephants have been left out over night in weather in the teens at this zoo

i understand that elephants walk many miles aday in the wild and these elephants have not been cared for the way they should. But could it be they are "danceing " as they were made to do when they were at Catskill Game farm. These elephants have been together most of their lives.
Actually, no. Elephants don't "dance" ever in the wild. This is a behavior only seen in captive elephants with zoos and circuses that are chained or caged many hours throughout the day. This is a neurotic behavior like big cats pacing in their enclosures and other zoo animals biting the bars. Basically these highly intelligent animals become neurotic from the intense confinement. Any living being that is caged or chained would go crazy. Animals are no different. Thanks for your comments.
