I recorded poet, novelist and filmmaker Sherman Alexie at Rutgers University in Newark only a few weeks after September 11, 2001. With humor and fearless candor, Alexie spoke incisively of the broader implications of the tragic event and its still fresh aftermath.

These are beautiful thoughts from a beautiful man. I wonder yet, if we're ready to hear and think them.

Even if you think Alexies words are incisive or your saying "Amen brother" these words are very insightful and really get you thinking. This is great. Thanks for posting.

I love you Sherman Alexies. Although we have a different view on the Bush family, I do hear what you are saying about this world.

Those the thoughts that I had too.. Israel, Ireland, Scotland, England have all had terroristic acts that have blown up people and buildings and airports. The bombing of the Twin Towers was a horrible act, but it is not unique in the world, sadly.

These are thoughts that we should aspire to. The kind of person we should aspire to be.

He says our national anthem, I am an Omaha patriot and consider myself a citizen of the Omaha nation, not an Amerikkkan. Bin-laden is not justified for 9/11 but he is fighting an Imperialist, mass murdering, plundering, genocidal country called The United States, I do not condone death of any people.....The Iraq and Afhgan wars are genocidal 3 million non combatants murdered in Afghanistan and 2 million in Iraq!!!

Very True, how easy we forget about alot of what Mr. Alexie has said here...Because we are so self-absorbed in our pity little minds...and forget about the rest of the world..or our very own close family members....Scarey! We all need to wake-up, stop sleeping and become more AWARE!
