This is Radio opaque dye injected through an EZ-IO Needle into a Tibia. Done under Fluoroscopy this is real time video of how fast drugs or fluid can get to the body with IO Infusion.

Very cool.

  • FUN FACT: While this procedure is "Gentle" by comparison, it is by far the most painful to "flush" during an infusion. This is because bones do not create as much marrow as we mature, instead, the Tibia is filled with fat reserves while the Manubrium (upper portion of Sternum) maintains marrow integrity. The far more physical "Fast 1" is by far less painful than the "EZ-IO" application (Because of its area of application).

  • No, Think of a bone as a tree twig/small branch or tree limb. If you break the branch/twig in 1/2 you will see a soft inner core (like cork) Mammal bone is similar to the tree. The soft inner portion is where blood cells are made, therefore easier IV access is established. Next time you are outside grab a small branch, snap it in 1/2 and you can undersand how this works... the hard calcified portion of the bone is like tree bark, the inner portion is living tissue.

  • nope it doesnt

  • does it damage the bone?
