Parents of a 13-month-old boy say a "pit bull" looking dog attacked their infant at home. The child is recovering from scrapes and bruises. The incident happened Thursday on Mesquite Desert Drive near Valencia road and I-10. Katie and Jake Stockman say it was a parent's worst nightmare. "My 4 year old yelled "dog!" and I turn around and this pit bull looking thing comes up and just knocks him over. It slams his head on the concrete, looks like he kind of grabs him along the leg area." They say the dog appeared in their neighborhood about once every month. But it wasn't until this week they say the dog attacked. The mother says she scooped up her son then slammed the door, leaving the dog outside. In a panic Katie calls 911 and then calls her husband Jake at work. "I was very upset. I was livid. The baby's diaper is open on the ground got a big old hole torn in it." The Stockman's say Animal Control simply didn't respond fast enough. "One hour. Two hours. Dog is still around but Animal Control is nowhere." The Pima Animal Care Center's manager says they should have put more effort into capturing the dog from the get go. Kim Janes says they're investigating why this didn't happen. "We went back and were able to capture the dog and visit with the parents." Janes says this incident should have been given more priority. "When a citizen has a problem with our response time I would encourage them to call us and talk to a supervisor. And in this case, we got some work to do." The Stockman's say they hope this incident will help heighten Animal Control's response time when animal's attack. "We got lucky this time that it's just his diaper and a few scrapes on his leg. But I was scared to death." The Pima Animal Care Center says they've contacted the suspected owner of the dog. If nobody comes forward to claim the dog they say it will be put down because it attacked.
