  • how hot?

  • On a good bright day between say 11am-3pm it will always boil water. It cooks like a crock pot.

  • you would starve to death with this method in the uk!

  • Wow I was looking at cardboard + aluminum foil making a solar cooker. Car sunshades are even more simple than that. I never even thought of using those. Great Idea.

  • Well said at the end. Not complicated, no heating of the kitchen, no electric needed. and its fun I like to solar cook myself.

  • I use car sunshades as well. They really do work good. I use mine in the configuration that you have on the ground, except I put mine on my deck.

  • Good stuff! I was peacekeeping in East Timor, one of the poorest countries in the world and I taught our interpreter how to use one of these car sun shields to cook for his family. I had read about it and got my wife to post one to me. It worked a treat and he and his wife were impressed as it reduced their reliance on finding wood to burn each day. I hope it gave them many hot meals.
