Dog training without force.
For now, the training we do is just for my own experience, experimentation and her fun. Some dogs need jobs and this "job" meets our needs just fine. As you can see, she has reinforcer loyalty, not "source" or "victim loyalty," which are things that I as a student of behavior never believed in. "Victim loyalty" sure sound nice, but it is what is known as an explanatory fiction. Furthermore, I do not want my dogs focusing on cadaver material after they have found it. I want them to indicate at source and focus on their reinforcer and not moving until they are released. That is just how I do things. Some agree, some do not. The choice is yours to make. Please understand, especially if you are training a sar dog, that dogs do not function with "love" or "loyalty" or "work ethic" as innate primary motivators. Those notions are just myths and fictions. What dogs work for is gaining access to or escaping from reinforcers. If you comprehend this, it will help frame your entire training process and make you a much better trainer/ handler as well.
I'm totally paranoid about her blowing the knee again, because she still goes pretty hard for sure. She's been out of commission for a long time. 11/28/2011
