I was curious dan, I know I'm the only person speaking here, but hey it's nice you reply to the comments so the questions I ask others don't have to, I was wondering, how do you actually make money as an auctioneer?

That's hard to fathom talking so fast several hundred times over a 14 hour period and being able to talk to the next few days. It's simply a god given talent to be able to talk that fast. and a skill acquired over time.

My wife and I also handle several fundraisers each year, We charge 1000.00 to 2500.00 per event plus 3% of the auction net in some cases. There are also other negotiated cost involved depending on the type of auction we are handling

There are a lot of ways to make money in the auction business through buying and selling, networking etc. Most of our income is derived through commissions. We charge the seller a percentage of the sale. We charge 20% to 25% of the gross sale on storage, 5% to 25% on Commercial sales, Machine Shops, Construction Equipment and Business Liquidations. We also do 1000's of appraisals each year for banks, brokers, investment companies, attorneys and the private sector.

Usually, I would have a relief auctioneer and we would trade off every hour or so But really it is all in your head when your in the middle of a long sale like that making money sometimes a 20 minute relief is all it takes to get you back in the game. Great questions and comments
Thanks

10 hours, is this the longest auction you've ever had?
Trendwin 1 year ago
@Trendwin Back in the days when we owned an auction house in Riverside, we use to have these marathon auctions once a month that would last from 10:00am to Midnight 14 hour long auctions, It would waste me for a couple of days afterward. I do not miss those days.
