Pessoa's poems are also major examples of existentialist philosophy.
To understand life, to give it a meaning or to refuse it depends deeply on our feelings, perhaps more than on our reason. And Pessoa's poetry is an example of it. Philosophical profundity is, in the case of Pessoa, intimately connected to beauty, to art, to the ability of the writer to touch our souls, our astonishment, or his ability to open new horizons of awareness.
The poem name is "Lisboa"

In many colors

By means of different, it is monotonous.
As the strength of feeling, I'm just thinking.
If, at night, but lying awake,
Lucidity useless not being able to sleep,
I imagine anything
And thus ever again (because there sleep
And, because there's sleep, a bit of a dream)
I want to stretch the view with which I imagine
For large palm fantastic,
But I see no more
Against a kind of inside of the eyelids,
What Lisbon with their homes
In many colors.
I smile, because, here, lying is another thing.
The strength of monotonous, is different.
And, by dint of being me, I sleep and forget that I exist.
It is only, without me, I forgot why I sleep,
Lisbon with their homes
In many colors.
