  • Bands like the Specials used to bring black and white kids together, so they had more in common.

  • Hence the concept of the label Two-Tone - Black and White together - At the time, the majority of youth, whatever their colour were struggling to find meaningful work (including myself). Bands like the Specials did more for race relations in the UK than the so-called experts ever will!

  • "it makes no sense to follow fashion" ;)

  • OMG! A black man that can't dance!!

  • 2:13 no teeth

  • LOVED THIS SOUND AS A KID GROWING UP IN THATCHERS REGIME ,AWESOME , SAW THEM AT BRIGHTON BEFORE CHRISTMAS2011,MORE ENERGY IN THAT PLACE THAN YOU COULD IMAGINE, EVERYONE WAS HIGH ON GOOD TIMES A GREAT MUSIC, GOD BLESS TERRY AND THE BOYS

  • Think i was about 14 years old at youth club in the northern soul room when the penny dropped that most of those around me were listening to the drivel pumped at them by the media and following fashion like sheep,me and me mates liked northern soul which was a scene created by the working class youth for ourselves with our own identity that no moneymen have ever been able to change still unto the present day. Its our own choice, our music created by quality unrecognised US artists in the main.

  • @SuperMaxibaby At first I thought I must be getting old when I started to think todays music is shite, but my 12 year old son listens to me playing these old ska records and asks me why were the best songs were written years ago?

  • @SuperMaxibaby I can't agree with you more..

I remember the 1970;s with crappy disco music and 'Disco Duck 'being number 1. Then punk rock exploded on the scene, then it was ska, rockabilly, mod, new romantics, I am so glad I was a teen during that era, it was depressing because of Thatcher, but the music had so much energy, and we looked forward to what happened next. All it is for the kids now is 'How sexy is the singer?. We didn't care about that then. it was the lyrics WE listened to.

  • I love how all these jumper's have come back into fashion!

  • Ah....... The take the piss out of 'Pop of the Tops' issue......... Christmas jumpers Specials..... Hold on.... Who's this bandy legged guy????? He's Gifted...! :P

  • This is SKA. Pure and simple, timeless, brilliant.

Sums up life in the city for a lot of folk back then, perfectly.

The band and the genre are sorely missed. Thanks for the post and the memories.
