"Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
Einstein is probably the best known and most highly revered scientist of the twentieth century, and is associated with major revolutions in our thinking about time, gravity, and the conversion of matter to energy (E=mc2). Although never coming to belief in a personal God, he recognized the impossibility of a non-created universe. The Encyclopedia Britannica says of him: "Firmly denying atheism, Einstein expressed a belief in "Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the harmony of what exists." This actually motivated his interest in science, as he once remarked to a young physicist: "I want to know how God created this world, I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details." Einstein's famous epithet on the "uncertainty principle" was "God does not play dice" - and to him this was a real statement about a God in whom he believed. A famous saying of his was "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

  • In regards to what triggered the Big Bang. Nobody knows at this stage, however, one day science will answer this question too.

  • @ibullpitt Science and the belief in God are not opposites. Many well respected and brilliant scientists over the course of history and now believe in the existence of God. There is nothing in science that shows us there is no God, in fact some scientists and doctors have become believers in God as a result of their studies.

  • I think we are all ignorant. I think we are all getting to same destination we are just taking different paths. The reason why I am not christian is because I can't put my faith in a god who condemns those that do not believe in him. I cannot have faith in a god who says that gays are sinners. People who believe in these to principles in accordance to Christianity I personally dislike. However if you are a christian that loosely interprets the bible I think that's cool. I don't know :p

  • I am no Atheist. I lean more towards paganism. I don't mind Christians. I just don't like people who shove their beliefs down my throat. If you believe in god I think that's cool. I think people have a hard time grasping what faith really is. I personally can't believe in something that I can't sense. However I have faith in my morals. Not because I can physically feel morals. But because I feel in my "heart" what "I" think is right. I stay to true to my self and just live and strive to be happy

  • @Ozzi4Japan: That is bullshit. The only reason any so-called scientist believes in a god is because they were raised that way. They only maintain their belief on faith, not science. There is no amount of scientific evidence that proves a god exists, but there is plenty of evidence that contradicts supernatural religious claims.

Only an idiot believes in things that have no evidence. Believing things until disproven is a foolish way to live.

  • I use to believe in god and i aslo use to believe in the tooth fairy....

IF god was real, why would you want to pray to someone who allows others to suffer i.e aids, cancer, murder, rape, child abuse, poverty. If he created us & he supposedly can controls us..Why would i pray to someone like that? Who allows all these bad things to happen ? Why would anyone in there right mind think there doing a good thing by wanting to follow the beliefs of someone that allows the corrupt to run the world?

  • @ThePoutouMan "Ignorance can stifle learning, in that a person who falsely believes he or she is knowledgeable will not seek out clarification of his beliefs, but rather rely on his ignorant position."

  • @ThePoutouMan ... at least that is how they saw it. Until religion was proved wrong time and time again. What is left today? the existence of the universe and the posteriority of death. If they find answers religion will be obsolete (unless of course god does exist). Having said this there is no point in criticising religion, there is one however in finding answers. Let me finish with this however which is on the page about ignorance on the wikipedia article and with I found very interesting:

  • Inscience: The admitted absence of knowledge

Ignorance: Being unaware of the truth, yet also being unaware of this last fact.

This is, in philosophical terms the distinction one can make between atheism or agnosticism and belief in god (or any other explanation as a matter of fact as numbers do NOT justify a belief. For instance, millions used to think the world sat on the back of a giant tortoise). Religion throughout the ages was a way for men to answer the unanswerable ...

  • Making a video response, =D

Should answer "why" we make fun of theists as well as "why" calling us arrogant is extremely silly and, to be fair, hypocritical.

  • @Ozzi4Japan The problem is this "belief" has never been justified by evidence and thus is not considered rational.

Of course there is nothing that shows there is no God because you can't disprove something that doesn't exist. There is no evidence that there "aren't" unicorns either, does that mean we should believe there are? No. Instead disbelief is the default until a claim of existence can provide evidence to substantiate itself.
