SXQ saxquintet is a saxophone ensemble formed in 2001 by Kenichi Matsumoto, a saxophone player, focusing on the possibility of the sound of the saxophone itself rather than performing style, composed tunes and melodies. The members are outstanding with a great deal of individuality and originality among the young and middle standing jazz players. They released the first CD in your head in 2007. In March, they performed in the International showcase New Developments in Jazz at Tokyo Performing Arts Market (TPAM 2007) and there was a great response of those whom concerned not only from Japan but also overseas. In October 2008, they went on a tour in Russia and Lithuania with a grant of Japan Foundation and they were thought very highly at every concert in seven places including two big jazz festivals.
