YOUTUBE USERS:
I strongly recommend you to make a
quicklist, because you should find
somewhat disturbing to choose 40
videos one by one.

---------------------------------------

The Gameboy Color videogame, Pokémon Red Version, cleared in 2 hours with 9 minutes.

---------------------------------------

=INTRODUCTION=

Note: Segment 39 is missing. The run was accepted regardless because the absent segment is only a minute long, and the verifiers did not spot any cheating.

The runner is Ben 'Cygnus' Goldberg, he is one of the few players that made a speed run on this videogame, here are his words:

"First, I must thank the following people for this run: samthedigital for his vast knowledge of this game and his strategy of using Fissure with Charmander. He helped me with so much, I can't even remember all that he's done. I must also thank Amazing Ampharos for his strategy of teaching Lapras Toxic to use against Gyarados. I was about to give up on this run due to frustration with Gyarados, so that strategy was extremely valuable to me. Many others have also helped with this run, but I've thanked them in my past comments so I'll refrain from doing so this time.
Well as soon as you watch the first segment, it's evident that my strategy is pretty much completely different in this run as I choose Charmander as my starter instead of Squirtle. Charmander is faster through the beginning but I thought he would lose time in the middle and against the E4. Through some testing, I figured out that this isn't the case. In fact, Charmander gains a lot of time during the whole run. The E4 would have been slower, but that's where Fissure comes in. With Fissure, the E4 was a breeze save Lance.

I could go into huge detail on every segment in this run, but then what would be the point of watching it? So go on and start watching the run!"

  • the magic music

  • @expertnoobFTW NO FUCKIN WAY!!!

  • The first battle was bullshit right there...

  • lol Gary just failed everything that is pokemon. His tackle did 4 damage when charmander only had 3 hp left. and using tail whip wouldve just delayed charmander's death. (well, not death since pokemon never die in pokemon)

  • @Hares999 The AI does that sometimes.

  • X defeated Y! Lawl.

  • And to do the glitch, you fight trainers in the same way that you do the glitch to get Mew, only you don't fight the guy with a slowpoke, but rather some of the other trainers in that same area. Doing this yields a lot of fully evolved pokemon, and pokemon that you wouldn't get until much later in the game. I am currently doing this glitch so that I can have a team of Gengar, Nidoqueen, Lapras, Scyther, Marrowak, and Charizard. It even has pretty good type coverage which is cool.

  • Question for the video poster - Are glitches acceptable in this run? Because actually, there's a glitch that involves getting several pokemon such as Gengar, Nidoqueen, Lapras, Scyther, and Cubone (which would evolve into Marrowak) the first time you go to Cerulean city. Might seem useless but Gengar is a better investment than any of the starters, as it is not affected by the majority of attacks at that point in the game - By the time it is affected, it's high level.

  • better than pokemon black aint it?!!

  • @AsianHideOut ah, the days when you needed to blow on the cartridge, when playing a gameboy meant you needed to spend 10 minutes getting it to just the right level of contrast.....when characters looks took some imagination.....
