I remember my parents playing this album when I was a little kid, along with the Martin Denny and Dave Brubeck, etc., albums we had. Along time ago! All great music.

I never had to pay to get off untill around 1960 or so. It cost a quarter to get off the Green Line at BU or thereafter, but if you got off at the first stop after Kenmore it was free to get off. Everybody walked the last two or three blocks. I don't see how they thought they could enforce it.

How bout coming to Jam with us. I know a guy personally who was there when it happened.
I get him to tell the story of the MTA to the crowd and how it happened. The stations still exist.
Massive American History.
You want anotherone, look up KT's "the sinking of the Reuben James" it's on Utube
I encourage you to do so, and look at the comments, I made many as my cousin went down with the USS Indianapolis CA-35
The "Reuben" is very sad. USS Indy was the biggest disaster in US Naval History

I always loved this song, especially when KT did it. I'd picture my ex as Charlie, and how I'd thumb my nose at him when he rode by, instead of handing him a sandwich. Sure wish somebody would make that kind of a protest song about the Bush administration and the Iraq War...

In memoriam Bess Lomax Hawes, who gave us this song, a song which put Boston on the map!

That's a nice interpretation, but it has nothing to do with the song. The co-writer Bess Lomax Hawes died recently and her obit mentioned the origins of MTA. It was written in response to an actual Boston subway fare increase as a campaign song for mayoral candidate Walter O'Brien Jr. (whose name was fictionalized a little bit by the time the KT recorded because he was considered to be a red). As for the true art of the 60s, the song was written around 1949 and this version came out around 1959.
