I got a 1998 Ford Escort. Tranny just took a crap. Looking for a cheap reliable car i can make well.. Somewhatly quick. Don't wana a mustang cause i need to save some gas lol. How much time and money is put into that neon?

@dylanmcown3d as it sits there, not much. Find a DOHC with a 5 speed.

I have a Plymouth Neon 99 want to do some modifications to my as well, nothing too crazy but enough to where I don't empty my pockets at the gas PUMP! Any suggestions?

@Mr1972z Well there is a cold air intake, free flowing exhaust, and a larger throttle body. You could do a new intake manifold as well, but that is usually more money. Beyond that you should upgrade the computer (especially with a longtube header) and that requires premium fuel....neons.org has an FAQ that outlines what modifications for what motor (sohc or dohc) should be done and in what order.

As indicated in the title, the exhaust is a long tube header and a vibrant muffler.

@dylanmcown3d I got a 99' Neon R/T 73000 miles, with bolt-on mods. Its smokes alotttt shit. Still gets mid-high 30's mpg. Gotta run premium fuel on the DOHCs though
