I remember seeing James Taylor on Saturday Night Live in the 80's. He sang Shower the People live with his guitar. In the foreground to his right was a reel to reel tape player. The reels did not move at all while he sang until the Shower the people chorus part came. After that part was over it would shut off until the next time that part came around. I thought it was pretty cool. I was hoping it was on here somewhere, but I can't find it.
I've seen him twice "live" 10-15 years apart, and that reel to reel is part of the show. My thought has always been, that his Wife, Carly Simon was one of the vocalists helping with backup. Since they're divorced....I figured this was a way he could still incorporate her unique sound into the performance. I could be wrong. I though it looked kind of cool. That was only song I think he does that with, and when you see that tape deck roll out onstage...You know what's coming.
Sorry for the delay in replying. I'm a reflective thinker. In that now infamous "line...about Jesus," I think I was trying argue further for the changing VARIETY of sexual expression over time and across cultures. Frankly, I'm not convinced that a Jesus actually existed, but the one I conceive of--a person of the flesh--would have been a sexual being in addition to an accepting, loving, charismatic advocate of ALL people. I didn't mean to imply that he was gay. But I also don't think...
