(This video looks much better on facebook...)

This is a true story that some people say is from Franklin County up around Charlemont. I recorded it on Halloween 1994 for the Cordelia's Dad CD "Comet," which is still one of my favorite records.

The woods sounded especially amazing yesterday and the night before. Maybe it's just that it's the first real snow this year and it's been a while since I've heard it. It wasn't deathly cold, but cold enough that snow was accumulating on the fretboard and causing some interesting buzz. It's supposed to be warmer today- ca. 18 F. Some days this is my favorite song.

  • That looks like a gibson hummingbird? Either way its a pretty guitar!

What tuning is this in? Lovely piece.

  • @greencountrysooner it's actually a Taylor. I think the tuning is CGCDFG. Thanks!

  • That's lovely but aren't you worried about damaging your guitar, exposing it to the cold and damp?

  • it's been exposed to worse!

  • Heard Comet just a few days ago for the first time and I've fell in love with both it and this song especially. Thank you so much for sharing this. Can't get the tune out of my brain! :)

  • @gilliangirl1 ....yeah like hell AND high water!

  • quite true. Especially this year. Hell, it probably couldn't even have been done in May.

  • Tim, I've loved this song a long time and this was a perfect setting for your fantastic performance. Bravo!

  • Beautiful! This is undoubtedly an American version of Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem, "The Lady of Shallot." Both versions have the unfortunate effect of making me cry.

  • sounds like DADGAD

    OR CGCFGC

  • Hey I am learning this song on guitar but i can't figure out the tuning your playing in... What is it?
