This is Brio, a Toller, eating a raw deer rib cage. It took him 2 full weeks to eat the whole thing. This was in March, 2008, in Alberta, Canada, so the temperatures were cool enough to keep it "refrigerated" outside nicely. The deer rib cage came from someone who has a hunter friend. Brio is a 3-year-old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. He ate all of the meat and all of the rib bones, which must have been fairly soft. The only part that was left at the end was even less than what you can see at the end of the video -- about a 6" section of the largest of the vertebrae.

  • near the end did you supplement the carcass with extra meat? since it was mostly bone at that point?

    btw your pup is gorgeous

  • @LionessCub1 At the beginning, there was a lot of meat, so I gave him extra bone. Nearer to the end, I gave him extra meat. I gave him organs throughout. I let him eat as much as he wanted, then I gave him extra goodies after he was done each time.

    Thanks !

  • Where can I find this for my dogs!?

  • @crystallinesanctuary I was given this by someone who knew a hunter. Get to know some hunters ? ;-)

  • How does it stay, relatively, fresh enough for him to eat for those 2 weeks.

  • @frogkpr622 It was the perfect temperature outside at that time of year to "refrigerate" the meat, but not freeze it.

  • good to see someone naturally feeds their dogs. good video, 5 stars.

  • I have never added it up. Just like peoples' diets vary a lot, it depends on what quality and type of foods you feed. Some say that feeding raw can cost about the same as feeding a good quality kibble. Some types of meat and some sources are a lot more expensive than others. There are also free sources of meat and bones, such as from people clearing out their freezers or from hunters. This deer rib cage was free from someone who knew a hunter ! Great, "organic", wild meat !! And free !! :)

  • OMG! MY DOG WOULD LOVE THAT!

  • How much does it usually cost per year to feed a dog only raw foods?

  • Oh my! What a lucky dog! Haha
