A new installation by celebrated British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor on display at the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin.
The installation entitled Memory is the 14th commissioned work for the Deutsche Guggenheim, designed specifically for the museums exhibition space. It was on view from 30 November until 1 February 2009.
Memory is described as an intervention in the gallery that prevents any one complete viewing or experience of the work. Fabricated of 24 tons of rusting Cor-Ten steel, with industrial tiles and bolts exposed, the sculpture loosely resembles a balloon or egg-shaped object. The sculptures steel surface engages the extremities of two of the gallery walls, including the ceiling, with the utmost precision.
As part of the Guggenheim Museums Asian Art initiative, the commission is scheduled to further travel to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, in New York from October 6, 2009 until March 28, 2010.
Deutsche Bank has a strong partnership with Anish Kapoor, having sponsored his show in Boston, US, and helped to bring his work to an exhibition accompanying this year's Frieze Art Fair in London. In addition, one of his works was used on the 2008 Deutsche Bank Artcard (http://www.db-artcard.com).
