In the 2nd novel, the results of the Golden Age of Colossus are shown: people are reduced to a lazy, shiftless, spiritless, drugged-out, screwing-in-the-streets bunch of slugs, living and dying at Colossus' whim.

A statist liberal paradise, in other words.
