  • man listen to that turbo at the end!

  • The advantage to jake brakes is that they slow down ur truck using engine power instead of trying to stop 80k lbs only using ur air brakes.

  • @metamaggot It is but just like hydraulic retarders you have high cost, a weight penalty and the fact that cooling these retarders can be an issue, especially on an on highway vehicle where you are paid by what you carry.

  • @tempestnut You're absolutely right, I've never driven logging- or any other vehicles in Kiwiland or in Ostrichlia.

However, I guess you haven't driven a truck which includes the both systems either, and therefore unable to compare. i.e. a FH16 that has the both systems (yep, not the Jake brand). There's no doubt who's the boss of these 3 auxiliaries. The brake blending function reveals the reversed pecking order; the exhaust br. and VEB come 1st, then the retarder till wheel brakes

  • @OttovonEarth Absolute rubbish. Only someone that has never driven in New Zealand on loggers could say something so wrong.

  • is'nt a telma more effective?

  • @staxitix

Hey at least it doesn't sound like a thousand libtards whining about the enviroment.

  • The 'Jake' brake works by hydraulically popping open the exhaust valve at the top of the compression stroke, thereby losing energy on every stroke. It makes the engine compress intake air, and then just dump it rather than having a firing (power) stroke. 'Cages' on top of the heads hydraulically redirect mechanical motion from the cam shaft or rockers to the exhaust valves via electronically operated valves. An exhaust brake is a butterfly valve that just crudely blocks the exhaust manifold.

  • It has either a C-15 or a 3406E. Both good engines. Signature 600 not so great but good power. And i rarely here an ISX Cummins that sounds that good.

  • whats the difference between a jake brake and an exhaust brake? thank you
