First of all, being a huge Ninja Turtles fan at the time, I was blown away by the cover and thrilled by the prospect of an NES game based on the show. Also lusted after "Ninja Gaiden" and "The Adventures of Bayou Billy" after perusing the previews/stage maps. Those were my three "holy grail" games of 1989. Also remember being excited by the previews of "Dragon Warrior" and "Mega Man 2".
That issue of NP didn't actually "retail at $3.50" even though there was a price on the cover. NP wasn't available on the newsstands at that point in time.
anyway.. I eventually caved and got rid of them. I remember these and I _REALLY_ wish I would have saved them. Nintendo Power was NOT my favorite magazine, even though SNES was my favorite system and I loved my NES as well. I would always get super excited when they came, flip right to the code pages and then be semi bored reading the rest unless they were talking about some new tech or sequel to game I loved.
I had all of the Nintendo Powers up to #50. My mother used to complain that I had them all over the place and when I said I wanted to keep them she said "and do what with them?" .. I told her I wanted to collect them and that they might be worth something. She said, along with my brother "really? They are going to be worth something? Who is going to buy them?"
My parents were always VERY supportive and I think they were just screwing with me/trying to make me not be a pack rat... anyway I
Modern gaming is pretty bad compared to the 80s-90s.
Nowadays the gameplay is streamlined to the point of having no challenge (might as well watch a movie), and almost every game is going for the same "realistic" visual style (other than nintendo games it seems) rather than every game looking unique. Very few new games are any good, and the ones that are generally aren't very well received because they offer fun gameplay and challenge, which people don't want anymore apparently.
@teGSR Kids today are actually the lucky ones, with hd graphics and games like god of war 3 and mass effect 2. They also have the luxery to save their games and use the internet to look for tips, codes, and secrets. We will all look back 10 years from now, when all games are 3D and motion controlled, and remember how good we had it today.
This was my first ever issue of Nintendo Power.

Magazine for me would have been like.. Next Generation, or ULTRA GAME PLAYERS/GAME PLAYERS (Gawd, I miss that magazine. Best. Magazine. Ever.)
Anyway, seeing this brings a wave of nostalgia. Thank you!

@ReaperJ21 It was the best. I honestly don't see how kids could have had as much fun in the past decade as we did in the 80's - 90's.

I wish video games were as hyped up as this today like it was back then. I'd love to go to a Nintendo store!
