Hello Viewer,
I am Brian Wong and I am a koto player from Oakland California. The composition presented here is my first composition. It is about the yellow brick road from the 'Wizard of Oz.' The form of the piece is in 2 parts with an introduction and then a fast and slow part. I envisioned myself walking along the yellow brick road and the collection of thoughts that I had as I walked it. What was I looking for? What do I want when I get to the end of this road? The piece uses various koto techniques including guitar like strumming, different types of muting, pitch bends and tuning changes; as I composed I was influenced by Tadao Sawai, Hikaru Sawai and Dr. Frank LaRocca.

I am having a debut concert on September 16,2007 at 4 PM at Old First Church in San Francisco, CA ticket info at http://www.oldfirstconcerts.org/

  • pure epicness

  • Can I make a suggestion...or more like a request? Can you please play and record Scott McKenzie's "San Francisco"? I think the Koto can do wonderfully with this particular song.

  • The person that 'disliked' this is a fool that doesn't appreciate awesome.

  • @TheSandyBreezy I went to a Hiroshima concert in Oakland CA and on stage the instrument is quite large compared to the person playing it.

  • I can't stop listening this great beautiful piece. Hoping a young great Koto player like him could change the Japanese hierarchical Koto society to be more opened one ....

  • Damn! how tall is he?

He makes the koto looks like a toy.

  • im 12 he was my subsitute teacher in my chorus class treeview elementary school he brought in the koto two months ago (then was 04/13/09 i think)

  • awesome.

  • Go Mr. Wong!!!!
