This short video is of a friend with EB. She is the most inspirational person I have ever known. Please watch this video to understand.

At this time Amy is facing a critical turning point in her disease. The squamous cell carcinoma (a skin cancer) is chronic for Amy. It is causing her to undergo two to four surgerie...s a year. At this point, her doctors are concerned that she may soon lose her right foot and ankle to amputation.

As debilitating as that would be for anyone, for Amy it will mean she no longer can live the independant lifestyle she has worked so hard to maintain.

My concern is that since
Amy has no family support, no assets to draw on financially, instead of being able to go to an assisted living situation, she may end up in a long term nursing faciility. And that would be difficult to find for someone with her needs.....but more importantly, Amy would be living in a hospital environment that could prove dangerous for her and would definitely make her very unhappy and sad.

Please keep Amy in your thoughts and prayers.

  • Amy O’Neill loved the simple things in life. She knew how to see the good in every life.Amy, 53, of Hamden, one of the longest-living survivors of a rare and painful disorder, recessive epidermolysis bullosa died early Sunday at Hospice in Branford. “Amy lived with a zeal for life that shined as bright as the sun. Amy’s spirit brought together her community because it helped folks appreciate the simple things in life in a way no one else could.”

  • As of Sunday July 24th, 2011, Amy is with God. It was her faith in Him and her desire to live and make the best of her circumstances that kept her alive. I have known her for 11 years. My wife has known her since around 1985. We knew her pain and suffering and watched her struggle as she lost parts of her body and suffered through skin grafts. All she wanted to do was live and live even more. She kept her days full while she struggled independently to do what she could on her own. Peace Amy.
