I actually live in Lansing, and we got close to 7 inches or so. What surprised me was how quickly this thing came together. We were only expecting a quick inch, and suddenly the day before, we found out this was going to be a significant snow. First white new year's in years!

I remember this storm!! Chicago got spared but over here where I live in southwest Michigan, we got hammered. NW Indiana got it bad too. I was stranded at my gf's place in South Bend for the whole New Yrs day cuz of the roads. It was coming down like 3-4 inches per hr with thunder & lightening at the height of the storm. Then the lake effect kicked in the next day. Most areas here in SW MI and NW IN had 1 to 2 feet or more over the 3 day period! Memorable event for sure!
