This hard-to-locate documentary series from 1982 highlights the major themes, artists, and masterworks of Romanticism. A French-British co-production hosted by Anthony Andrews, the series does not exist in its entirety on YouTube. This episode presents the theme of the Golden Age. Segment one explores childhood, focusing on the German Romantics Novalis, Hölderlin, and Schumann. Two explores the Classical World. Three examines the death of Keats in Rome. Four explores Orientalism. Five showcases Pre-Raphaelite nostalgia, and finally, segment six examines Medieval Europe.
As I videotaped it in 1989 and edited and converted it to mpg in 2005 for my first YT channel in 2006, picture quality may vary.

@leiyang89 :) It would be nice to see Aloysius, but you'd have to go to "Brideshead Revisited" and pry him out of the hands of Lord Sebastian Flyte. ;)

In the case of this episode, the DVD from Media Outlet does have somewhat better sound/picture quality than this upload (though still not perfect) -- unlike the situation with the "Night" episode, where, interestingly, the YouTube upload actually has superior colours and sound than the DVD.

@jetuber Interesting, but not unexpected given the fact that the footage I acquired was taped on an old video player in 1989, and on "SLP", not "SP". In fact, some footage could not be saved at all, due to age and wear and tear on the tape when I converted it in 2005. I would hope any DVD release would have better quality than my salvaged footage--in any case a labor of love. Yes, the DVDs present episodes of varying picture quality. One does one's best to share what can be shared.

@HerAeolianHarp I agree completely. I only mention this to highlight how astonished I was that the YouTube upload of Night is superior to the audio and colour quality of the DVD version. An official release from RM Productions (or FR3, or Landseer), would still be extremely welcome! By the way, I wrote out more extensive series credits on Wikipedia. Some of the creators (e.g., Marcel Brion) have a remarkably distinguished pedigree. Also, note the different directors of the various episodes.

@jetuber Thanks for your comment and for writing more on Wikipedia. I, too, wish we could find out information more directly from Landseer. I emailed them once, I think in 2005 or 2006, but never got a reply. Thanks again for this. - E
