Boss DS-1 Diode Mod

I saw this modification gaining popularity around some guitar forums, so I decided to give it a shot and document the changes.

The modification gives the pedal a huge boost in volume and removes the fizz that is usually associated with a Boss DS-1, it also adds some bass frequencies that are usually lost in the stock version of the pedal.

There isn't a huge difference in removing one diode or two, but after removing the second one there is a bit less fizz and a bit more openness in the pedal, I don't know how well that will transfer to the video though.

which diodes did you remove? D4? D5? did you put a jumper in its place?

@PhuckHue2 I removed D5 and then D4, and I didn't put anything in their place.

Tried this, my ds-1 will no longer be in the drawer rotting away. I have done many of the mods to a prev ds-1 and this is the best I've heard from this pedal. I did exactly as mentioned, took out D4 and D5 and put nothing in their place.

Best this is it doesn't make such a mess of the board and can be reversed so easy.

I notice taking out D5 made a huge difference but then I put the two diodes in series in D4 and an LED in D5 with a few other mods I'll put a demo out soon

Do you just put a jumper on diode 4 and diode 5 or do you jump them to each other or put a jumper in each one to loopback. Ive never modded a pedal but I want to learn.
