At NAIAS 2012, Volvo showcased their first XC60 Gasoline Plug-in Hybrid Concept Technology which has been developed specifically for the US and China markets. The XC60 incorporates three cars in one - a pure electric car, a highly economical hybrid and a powerful high-performance car.

concept is just talk... Toyota, Honda and Ford all have plug in hybrids available in 2012, 2012 and 2013 respectivly.

Why the hell don't they just make the thing a diesel-electric? In essence a battery powered car with a diesel generator? With that you don't need a gearbox as you use a small diesel engine as a generator only. That system would be much more efficiant with less energy loss.
