A Walt Disney SILLY SYMPHONY Cartoon Short.

Morty Citymouse invites his cousin Abner Countrymouse for a visit and shows him the ways of the big city, including traps, eating quietly, and busy traffic.

The SILLY SYMPHONIES, which Walt Disney produced for a ten year period beginning in 1929, are among the most fascinating of all animated series. Unlike the Mickey Mouse cartoons in which action was paramount, with the Symphonies the action was made to fit the music. There was little plot in the early Symphonies, which featured lively inanimate objects and anthropomorphic plants & animals, all moving frantically to the soundtrack. Gradually, however, the Symphonies became the school where Walt's animators learned to work with color and began to experiment with plot, characterization & photographic special effects. The pages of Fable & Fairy Tale, Myth & Mother Goose were all mined to provide story lines and even Hollywood's musicals & celebrities were effectively spoofed. It was from this rich soil that Disney's feature-length animation was to spring. In 1939, with SNOW WHITE successfully behind him and PINOCCHIO & FANTASIA on the near horizon, Walt phased out the SILLY SYMPHONIES; they had run their course & served their purpose.

  • The city mouse lives at 66 1/8 Parkritz Row. Are mice about 1/8 the size of a human?

  • Am I the only one to find that these Silly Symphonies NEVER got old?

  • FOOD! jum jum

  • @nikpogi

and that multiplier number is just a fragment of this cartoon

  • the sound of the hiccup is the same of the alarm clock with the drunk coo-coo in pinocchio

  • @Alusnovalotus You're incorrect. This was made during the Great Depression. The Great Depression started in 1929 and ended in 1941

  • See now when have cartoons these days have reall good humour,. Like showing a mouse drunk on champerz!!!! XD Good stuff!!

  • Lol drunken mouse has some charm

These should be rereleased on Adult Swim

  • Back in those days there was more of a distinction between country and city. Today it's all pretty suburban.

  • funny and ironic. this was made before the great depression.... the irony was that after the depression, it was the country people/ who knew how to work, survived!!! the rich ones died off or were forced into poverty!!
