We enter Gallia, land of the Laguz! Three more female characters join the party (one playable from the start, a recruitable one and a semi-controllable guest), and so our ranks grow from a party of 3 to 5-6 (Lethe does contribute already, even as a guest).

Titania can just rush the boss killing everything along the way and let Ike seize to clear the map, but that's not how I want to play at all right now. We want to protect the two villages on the beach from the bandits (one of whom easily destroys a village if Lethe doesn't get there first with her 9 movement), and we also want our other units to get battle and weapon experience (Ilyana, in particular, wants D ranks in fire and wind to hit Laguz more effectively with her spells and get siege magic access later on). You get 300 Bonus EXP from clearing the map under 8 turns, and while it's tempting to do just that, I decided to actually engage all my lower levelled girls in combat. Mist wants to work on her staves, and Marcia just joined and has kinda mediocre base stats.

I gave Marcia an Iron Lance forge with max MT and hit, so that she has no trouble connecting most of her attacks in spite of her low starting skill. She's not too good on the beach, where all enemies have avoid bonuses when she gets none (due to being a flying unit).

Mia rocks on the beach however. She runs around with insane avoid percentages (single digit number against the one bandit who went for the village and stubbornly stopped right there when Lethe got in his way), and she has, like, astronomical chances to die here, even with Fixed Mode and its immunity to RNG blessings or base BEXP abuse. At this rate, she will promote soon enough without needing a Master Seal. It's no priority though - as you can see I gave my Seraph Robe to Marcia, even though Mia wouldn't mind it either. Mia doesn't fly, nor does she have a high enough movement stat, so the unit we want to make bulkier is the one who goes to far away places before any other units make it. Jill will be even better at that, but we need to wait a couple more chapters for that to happen.

Gained a lot of levels with my girls here, Ilyana, Mist and Titania levelling up once, Mia twice and Marcia three times, even. Should've given Titania the pirate boss kill as well (he counts as a boss too), but it's fine - she's getting her bosskills pretty consistently with my playstyle, and so she should stay awesome for a long while. Soon enough we'll get our first Occult scroll and she'll be able to tank even more reliably.

One strategy I employed to give everyone easy experience was have Titania carry Ike. She has only 8 attack speed when weighed down by rescuing the hero, so she doesn't double. She lures the reinforcements and gets their health down, so that the rest of my party can scavenge without fearing receiving severe counter damage.

Didn't get much bonus experience at all, but that's precisely the kind of thing I intended to do in this chapter. Longplay much, huh.

  • I loathe this chapter no matter what difficulty I'm playing. Nice work.

Also, how did you approach stealth? There are guides to do it but they require Oscar. Can I assume this means you're just going to have to rout for the CEXP and not get the BEXP?

So far this seems to be the case, yet I'm still experimenting with it. With just Titania, Marcia and Lethe (+Ike/Volke), it doesn't seem very possible to open Nepenthe's cell, open all the chests (they're all kinda negligible though) and making it out undetected with Ike. I don't really care about recruiting Brom, though.

  • I love how Titania solos the bottom at first, simply because she's awesome like that. Still, I have no idea how you're going to beat Ashnard, since on HM you don't get any royals the first time, and he moves eventually. Ena to the rescue?

Yeah, going to keep Wrath/Resolve and a bit of BEXP for her.

  • these battles can go on for a while, no?

  • @MAZZ0Murder

True. It's very often the case in tactical RPGs though, and this series in particular does those long battles the best, I think.
