Children Will Listen (Into the Woods)

From Into the Woods, my favorite Sondheim musical. I chose this song not so much because I felt comfortable singing it (coz I don't) but because of it's message. Sondheim has what I think is one of his most important messages in this song so please give it some attention. As some one who grew up in a house hold where people weren't necessarily careful about the things they said, I fully understand the immense impact our words and actions have on the people around us especially children. So please take heed what Sondheim is saying in this song.

No I don't have kids of my own. Lots of nieces and nephews though.

For me the message of this song really hits home because I grew up in a household where people weren't necessarily careful with the things they said - not out of carelessness or malice per se; they just weren't aware of how it greatly effects the development of a child.

It's my hope that people really hear this message when they listen to this song.

If you smock a cigarette around your children chances are they will do the samething

You are doing become a smocker. If you sleep around with different men in the house your children will think it's ok to do the same thing so be wise think jerry

Why I say this because they are listing all the time. Let's say if you are smocking

cigarettes and your child is right there with you looking at you smocking a cigarette

Oh!!! I remember this from "Into the Woods"! I was tech on that in my high school's production. Wow, haven't thought of this musical in a long while. I thoroughly love it...such fantastically great memories from doing that production.
