From what my Korean friend explained, this is the olden days lunch box. The box is made from stainless steel so that it could withstand the heat when you put it on the stove. Probably at that time there's no microwave oven yet. And as you notice, the egg and kimchi were place underneath the rice, it is to prevent other students stealing it. So before eating it, shake it well and it will turn out like a bibimbap. It's a simple meal but very yummy.
