I know this is a year later, but the comments about lifting his head higher is not the correct way to sing. When you tilt your head up your chin comes up well, and you start singing from your throat. That is a bad thing because you are causing a lot of strain on your vocal chords and can damage it in the long run. I'll just leave it at that. I don't want to go into a whole singing lesson.
