This baby skunk thinks her tail is attacking her. She is very frightened fighting her tail, and her paws. She is showing extreme neurological symptoms. She got ten times worse than this, attacking herself, everything else, trying to kill herself, prolapsed her rectum, sprayed herself. She had to be euthanized. Her head was sent to the lab to check for rabies just to be safe. UPDATE: Skunk did not have rabies. I took that female skunk to LA City Animal Services. Their vet and their officer said she was neuro and should be euthanized. They euthanized her. I posted this for educational purposes. People need to know what neuro looks like in a bat. This is not rabies behavior.

  • Mary,

aside from stem cell malformation which cannot always be easily detected, i think you did quite right. I would have done further pathology though to determine the root of this behavior . My condolences over your loss.

  • @tenferts Had I known that the County Health Dept would only check for rabies I would have had my vet do the necropsy instead. I'm still so curious what was wrong with her. She could never even eat out of a bowl properly.

  • i have a question, did it spray? (dont they spray when they feel threatened?) or do they not do that until they are older?

  • @ItsJustJasmine She did indeed spray. She sprayed so hard she prolapsed her rectum. They can spray as little babies. Their aim just isn't too good.

  • It would of fixed it self after few months, the brain is still developing, the vet is an idiot for euthanizing it. The neurons would heal itself because its still undergoing cerebral development.

  • @vodka492 She would have killed herself in an hour. She was biting her paws, tail, cracking her teeth. She even prolapsed her rectum. The condition was getting worse, not better.

  • Mary, if you had to guess what this skunk had, what would your guess be?

  • @MaryCummins I would have turned the cold water on....Damn sure she wouldn't have been worrying about her paws...

  • @MaryCummins So many vets so I hear, no longer do necropsies. i am fortunate in that mine will work with me on those particularly stumping cases in question..

  • I love animals :)

  • Aw... :( so sad.

Why do people laugh at this..?

  • What do you mean by neurological? Neurological disorders could be anything that afflicts the brain. It isn't a disorder within itself.

  • @vodka492 Very critical condition... Might be if took attention earlier some sedatives could help.. but it aslo problem with laws out ther. In some states a law orders to kill and send head for study in case of any agression, unusual beaviour or just even if skunk sprayed human :(

  • The devil inside a skunk :o it's having a exorcism
