Bob put four (three males and one female) Phidippus audax together in a specially made glass box to film their behavior and interaction. A cricket was also introduced to see what would happen. Watch as the footage captures male posturing and defencive jousting, as well as a vicious fight and an attempt at mating took place. Filmed early in June, 2011.

  • Wow I found one of these when i was a wee lad, and thought it was huge, but years later I thought i was just small, and it wasnt so big, but then after this post man I changed my mind audax's are big jumpers.

  • @mikefarrelljr67 - Yes, these were a few of my "bad boys"! They can get fairly large, as far as jumping spiders are concerned. Adults can be as small as .4" to as large as .7" Females are usually larger than the males, as is the case in several spider species. And a female with eggs, can be quite "fat" so much as to inhibit her jumping and climbing ability. Take care!
