@bpertz check them out in their prime... i agree that the synapses aren't firing as passionately in this performance.

underappreciated

@HanKyeolYoon I never said that. Shosti happens to be one of my favorite composers. I'm not so much into the romantic stuff. I do believe that while Shosti does require a bit more of a rigid metering than other pieces, that it still can have an essence of humanity about it, and personality; fire, even. I, personally, do not feel that in this performance.

ohhhh my goodness i love that random key change mid-phrase at 4:10

@bpertz Do you wanna hear some sort of romantic performance with lots of rubatos? Then, I recommend you not to hear Shostakovich's pieces.

are they all from Russia? LOL

@FungoBoy maybe Prokofiev? He's a Russian composer too( i think)

I love the first violin's sound! He has a very clear open tone!

As much as I love this quartet, I don't particularly like this performance. It feels a little too emotionless. Like a bunch of stuffy old men playing with the metronome too loud. This is just personal opinion, but I think that this quartet should be *performed,* not simply played.
I'm not denying the talent of the individual players, because it's obvious that they are extremely talented. I just don't like this interpretation of it.
