Talked to Dan about vegetation removal in the Oakland Hills. This first video is from a site along Grizzly Peak Blvd. where UC-Berkeley is chopping up Eucalyptus trees in the hope of fire suppression.
He's a computer guy who has too much time on his hands. He thinks he knows better than UCB or EBRPD???? Well intentioned, but people need to see the bigger picture.
Now this guy is filing a lawsuit against EBRPD! He can only see the forest for the trees, not for the rich diversity of species that SHOULD be there! Please return to that area, and see how lush the native vegetation is now growing there. When you pull weeds from your garden and the tomatoes grow better... this what UCB did for Mother Natures garden in Claremont Canyon. This is absolutely VITAL to help restore some of the damage that we have done to our environment!
Why are you crying over an invasive species that has wrecked biodiversity in the Oakland/Berkeley hills (there is zero understory in a eucalyptus grove) & was a major contributor to the severity of the 1991 Oakland Hills fire? I'd love to see them all gotten rid of - they are overgrown WEEDS -so the native ecology could be restored, & that takes time. As far as "Clearcutting" - what a joke! That's what they did to the native redwoods & oaks when they planted those eucalyptus in the first place!
leave the trees alone, go chop down a mexican!
