On 2nd December 2007 two former fishing boats, James Cook and Szap 8, were towed from Wellington by the CentrePort tug Toia and were scuttled in an ex-ammunition dumping site in Cook Strait, some 15 nautical miles south west of Cape Palliser, in 1,700 metres of water.

  • Is there any footage of the Atlantic Elizabeth scuttling?

  • Was the James Cook always that low? It looks like it's been severely stripped down.

  • I used to fish with my back to these boats every week for years, wishing them gone. Now that I've seen them slip beneath the waves... it's a bit sad, really. They were not old, just unloved and uncared for.

  • i bet they're kicking themselves now, what with the current price of steel on the world market! =/

  • Good film. however I would have liked to being able to dive through my cabin on the old Nan Hai. Saved from scuttling, Being bought as a Shitbox, millions spent on her over the earlier years, Died....., Oh Well! Rest in peace.

  • great video and commentary thanks for posting
