Robert Altman (Short Cuts, Gosford Park) directs Elliott Gould (Friends, Ocean's Eleven) as the chain-smoking, wisecracking private eye Philip Marlowe who drives a buddy from LA to the Tijuana border and returns home to an apartment full of cops who arrest him for abetting the murder of his friend's wife. After Marlowe's release, following the reported suicide in Mexico of his friend, a beautiful woman hires him to locate her alcoholic and mercurial husband.

Then, a hoodlum and his muscle visit to tell Marlowe that he owes $350,000, mob money the dead friend took to Mexico. Marlowe tails the hood, who goes to the house of the woman with the temperamental husband. As Marlowe pulls these threads together, his values emerge from beneath the cavalier wisecracking.

  • Who is that screaming in the background in the hospital scene and what is happening to them?

  • thats guys a freak.

  • @tyzhen robert altman was not jewish

  • for someone who chain smokes and drinks like marlowe he does a good job chasing that car on foot.

  • "Harry, your father was a mohel." Haw, haw!

  • Rydell was great here, even though he's a vicious gangster, I couldn't stop laughing when he tells everyone to get undressed.

  • Mrs. Tewksberry is Sarah Palin.

  • Thank you very much for a lucky opportunity to see this great movie.

  • @ 3:32. Arnold the thief. Gets slapped.

  • 00:59 Arnold Schwarzenegger naked in the middle!

  • @tyzhen

"I Have my brain by birth." Then I guess your book burning parents must have dropped you on your head a few times too many. Don't worry though, it's okay with me.

  • @ZenCatcher An idiot who can "think" with no other categories except his cartoonish "German, neo-nazi , militarism, etc" . But I don`t blame you: how can you use your so called "head" to think when inside it there is only stinking shit.

I understand the real meaning of your comment : "please, just see what comments i post - when someone will implant me brain at last !"

Sorry, I can`t tell you a specialist in such therapies as I have my brain by birth.

Oh, almost forgot: kiss my ass.

  • @tyzhen

All the Gays, Jews and other normal people of society would prefer it if you shut your fucking mouth you Aryan ass clown. Why don't you do us all a favor and go practice your goosestepping in the mountains and stop bothering people.

  • @tyzhen That nurse would have been on minimal wage and she is very young, in the early 70s do you honestly think she is going to go out of her way to report this man for smoking in a hospital and leaving the hospital? Think about it.

Your speaking as a person from 2010.

  • @tyzhen I know in film school, they try to teach people that there are all of these hidden meanings behind everything.. but you're reading WAY too much in to this scene.

  • A patient just decides to leave the hospital and a nurse just says "are you checking in or out", he says "out" and she says "OK" ?!?! And the nurse even doesn`t make a problem that he smokes inside a hospital room?!

That movie must have been made by some 10 year old kids and Altman got the tape in exchange for treating them with ice-cream...

  • Did the director and/or the screenwriter have some problems with masculinity? Half a dozen of well-built men (even Ah-nerd among them) getting undressed and the only woman around is out of condition?

I know Altman is a Jew and among Jews experience in homosexual love is something like a matter of honor, but why should he and his kind impose their problems upon us, the normal, straight men?

  • I wonder if this was The Gropernator's first role?

  • Get in da chopper

  • I can't believe this was scored by John Williams! This sounds like it was scored by Vince Guarldi

  • What do you think?

  • What are you laughing out loud about ?

  • lol

  • Thats a juvenile Arnold Swarznenegger at 0:17 (to the left next to the lady) sporting an unusually ostentatious mustache !!!

  • The last part please?
