Bob Mitchum always spoke his mind...he let the chips fall where they may. Refreshing to see in a Hollywood star. Even gave a backhanded compliment about his frequent co-star Jane Russell. I can see why he got along ok with RKO boss Howard Hughes...both men were direct, forceful & eccentric in their own way...not caring what other people thought.
Jane Russell was spectacularly beautiful. Our memory of her has been damaged by the fact that she was outshown onscreen by Monroe in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," but Monroe had an overwhelming magic in movies. Compare Monroe's shimmering footage for what was to have been her last film, "Something's Got to Give," with Lee Remick's, who briefly inherited the role before the project was scrapped at Dean Martin's insistence. Even young Remick couldn't compete with Monroe's incandescence on film.
