We're just finishing a unit on the First Nations in Quebec before the arrival of the Europeans. Today I did a fast forward to focus on the First Nations' political demands in the past century... an introduction that my rap over-simplifies but well... at least I got the students' undivided attention.

When they shout out the cultural groups, that's because they're doing research projects on the Iroquois, Inuit, etc. I thought Simon in the front row was going to sing, but he had his own funky song ready for later.

I apologize for demonizing the Canadian government, but after you watch Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance (The Oka Crisis) (1993) you may be feeling as I do about the injustice that our gov't has dished out to the First Peoples.

The beat is by my compadre Louis Dugal (FP2).
